"Hare 001 - Follow th moon, 2014" by Meg Hawkins

“This watercolour is part of a series of three paintings showing a hare following the moon. I love the implosions of colour you get when mixing and infusing watercolour paints together; they seem to blend together, giving an almost natural form. I achieved this effect by first washing my watercolour paper with clean water, then adding a light wash of colour over the top, followed by a really deep dark colour in a corner of the page. When you drip some water on the page over the dark colour you see amazing effects take place, I simply love it!”

"Solar Ascension, 2012" by Alexa Aulds

“This painting was inspired by my interest in the Aztecs and their fascination with the sun and moon. Adopting geometric symbolism, the triangle represents solar energy, harmony and ascension. Along with the studded pyramid, this mirrors the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, Mexico. Every year thousands of people visit this pre-Hispanic site during the Spring Equinox. The defining ritual is to stand at the top of the pyramid, arms outstretched, facing the morning sun on the eastern horizon. Many come because they believe they are following in the footsteps of their ancestors, asking the gods for energy and health.”

"Lloyds (charcoal), 2013" by Jennie Ing

“This is a linocut print in an edition of 50 of Richard Roger’s Lloyds building in Lime Street, London, showing the exterior pipes and staircases. I printed this using a lime background and three shades of grey for the building. I love the contrast of strong curves and straight lines in this visually pleasing building - where it once stood out it's now almost hidden and dwarfed by many new office developments springing up in the City of London.”

"Two Beds in Croydon, 2014" by Martynas Virzintas

“This photograph was made in London's Southbank, while observing a public entertainer blowing bubbles that were getting carried by the wind over the backdrop of the City of London. The scene provided interesting juxtapositions with a strong social undertone – busy passers-by going about their business, most clad in smart outfit, and the bright, fragile bubbles over towers of the City neatly summed up current housing market situation in London, and those caught in it. This photograph was made deliberately slightly underexposed, toned in post-production to highlight overall feeling of unease around the theme it explores.”

"Red Pyke, 2012" by Jessica Wilson

“This abstracted landscape was based upon the mountain Red Pyke in the Lake District. With this series of paintings my subject matter centres on combining interiors and exteriors to create a dreamlike, hallucinatory space. I aim to play with the ambiguities between the pull of the pictorial space that draws you into the canvas, in contrast to the jarring effect of an odd paint mark that brings you back to the surface. This ambiguity between discernible objects and pigments on the canvas allows more viewers to see varying things within the painting.”

"Never Rest, 2014" by Paul Bennett

“The painting “Never Rest” is inspired by exploring some of the lesser known and more isolated wildernesses along the U.K.'s coastline. The West Coast of Scotland is probably referenced more than anywhere else in this painting. The untouched, rugged shores with the backdrop of quick changing and unpredictable weather; the haunting skies, low sun, long shadows and wild clouds; you can feel the motionless air devoid of sound apart from the waves hitting the beach. It makes one more conscious of their self. Up close you have winding rock pools, but you look up and see, resting on the horizon, the distant islands coming in and out of view, fighting their way through the mist. The bleak is balanced with the wild.”

“This work was painted on an afternoon of changing weather conditions in Northumberland, with squalling showers and sunbursts, while the harbour town of Amble remained shrouded in sea mist to the South.”

"Sonmium, 2012" by Lizzie Hingley

“When painting this I wanted to convey a dreamy lucid feeling - by using a pallet of vibrant colours over a purple background with metallic and glitter accents. Viewers have seen many images in this abstract painting, from butterflies to skulls. I chose the name ‘Sonminum’ as it is Latin for the word dream. I paint using a technique where I aim not to mix the colours; working with the drying rates of different types of paint my work shows textures which follow the flow of the colours. My paintings are inspired by organic forms in the chaotic yet organised way that the world around us flows.”

“Entitled ‘The Kiss’, this image encapsulates love and happiness. Oblivious to the speeding cab and hustle and bustle on the street, this unknown couple are caught in a moment of pure joy together moments before they go their separate ways. Her closed eyes and clear smile make the whole image - she seems utterly absorbed by him amongst so many other stories taking place around her.”

"In Flight, 2014" by Mary Mills McIlroy

“I am fascinated by parrots; I think they are truly amazing. Not only are they exceptionally clever, their beautiful colours and the ability of some species to speak through mimicking the human voice dumfounds me. The parrot in this piece is displaying its stunning array of colours whilst in flight. In order to create this work I used watercolours and applied a mixture of techniques, such as intricate brushwork, and dabbing and allowing the paint free-reign to settle where it wanted to. This is a limited edition reproduction taken from an original watercolour painting which was printed in 2014.”
