"My Armenia, 2012" by Gor Petrosyan

“This painting in still life style depicts traditional Armenian carpets, clay jugs and Armenian fruits. Being deeply Armenian, this painting pinpoints ‘virtues’ that Armenia has always been famous for: respect to traditions, hospitality and love towards life. The blue background symbolizes the tranquility of Armenia and its openness to the world.”

"The Baltic Triangle, Liverpool, 2007" by Luke Axford

“This is a site study painting for an architectural project in Liverpool. The area was being choked of life by two main motor routes; it felt as if the world was passing by quickly. It's a very architectural painting with overlays of various viewpoints, which turns it into an abstract painting.”

"Elvet Bridge, Durham" by Ian Scott Massie

“I lived in Durham for nine years as a student and then as a budding artist. I love the city with its iconic skyline, but one of my favourite things used to be taking a boat out on the river by Elvet Bridge with a friend, some wine, cheese and bread and spend the afternoon lazily rowing up and down the River Wear. I've tried to capture some of those days in this print.”

"Blue-breasted kingfishers , 2014" by Jane Tomlinson

“Wow! These incredibly well-dressed lovelies are blue-breasted kingfishers (Halcyon malimbica) and we saw them in the forests of Gambia in 2014. Although they have this striking cyan and black plumage, complete with matching red beaks and feet, they are actually pretty well camoflaged up in the high branches.”

"Road to Wutongshen, 2014" by sara willett

“‘Road to Wutonshen’ was inspired by my recent residency in South East China. We were situated in the Wutong Mountain range. Paths wound through the extraordinary landscape of lakes, verdant hills, banyan trees and vibrant flowering bushes. My favorite walk was from the arts centre to the nearby village of Wutonshen; at sunset the soil, rich in iron oxide, glowed a brilliant red. In this piece - a partly real, partly imagined landscape - I reference aspects of both the eastern and western painting traditions. Chinese landscape painting, with its use of aerial perspective, was the inspiration for this new series of paintings. Working in oil, I was also influenced by the lavish rendition of fabric and tapestries of the Flemish Primitive school. The net like repetition of the diamond motif that swarms across the surface creates a sense of movement, a meditative journey, and an optical illusion that plays with the depth of the picture plane.”

"Blind Justice, 2014" by Justas Lauzadis

“This piece is the dawning of new techniques that I will be using in the near future. My pieces usually revolve around a centralized concept and this one is no exception. The image is of Lady Justice with her eyes stitched shut. Lady Justice is typically displayed with only a blind fold over her eyes, implying that justice is impartial to parties and seeks the truth. I find that Justice is not blind, and that a blindfold is in fact only a temporary solution. Either money or bias can come in the way and remove this impartiality. The only real way to make her blind is to in fact, as gruesome as it is, stitch her eyes shut. This hemp stitching along with the gold and blood color mixed drip is my representation on what justice is and what influences it.”

"Port, 2010" by Dorota Janczar

“A beautiful sunny day in an imaginary port town - one from my dreams. I love sailing and the incredible, unique vibe of sea side ports, full of buzz, colour and light. This painting is very close to my heart and it's been painted with high quality, vibrant oil paint on a canvas. I love how the texture plays with the light and how the vivid blues, yellows and greens catch the attention. It will brighten up any home with a warm, breezy summery sea-side feeling.”

"'Dance', 2014" by Jason Ashwood

“This series of photographs is a visual metaphor for the career of a dancer. In a series taken with a professional ballerina, choreographer and teacher, these works expresses the carefree aspirations of the aspiring dancer, the inevitable personal and physical challenges in meeting them, and the final achievement of excellence. A unique and personal collection which evolved through the expression of the dancer.”

"P22, 2014" by Gill Miller

“This painting continues my exploration of color and form, specifically the round form - juxtaposed with square and irregular forms. Blues and green are the predominant colors on this canvas; red and orange only punctuate everything else. People see many different things in my art, which is my intention!”

"Blue Mood, 2014" by Elizabeth Cummings Murray

“I have recently started working with oils more than acrylics and experimenting with colour and brushstrokes to create energy and emotion. In all my paintings I break the rules of convention and push colour beyond normal boundaries; I find colour can create an energy in the painting that makes the context more relatable. This piece uses blues to accentuate a somber mood and give a vulnerability to the female in the painting.”
