“In this contemporary painting, yellow and gold sunflowers burst onto the canvas in a heavily textured still life. The texture was created by adding pumice from lava rock to the oil paints. I am honored that Michael Kaysen - a museum specialist at the Art Institute of Chicago - selected this painting for a national exhibit, Artistic License, at Studio 659 in Indiana. The painting is part of a series in which I combine realism with elements of abstract patterns.”
“As I painted this colourful landscape painting these words formed in my mind; when I paint I often visualize words first and then a story forms. ‘Today I feel the wind blowing strong; it whips around the corner of my house, threatening the trees and newly bloomed flowers. It hisses and whines with the creaks of my old home, like a whisper, it surrounds me. I feel chills up my spine, I feel watched; from the corner of my eyes I see shadows dancing. Then the wind picks up again, carrying a string of leaves like a ribbon and I feel peace.’”
“This piece is a landscape of our front yard when we were living in southern Colorado. I had to figure out how to complete the painting using only a few pastels. Since discovering pastels I have found new ways to use color and form that had never come to me through other media; I still branch out into other media but pastels is where my gift really shows itself!”
“This is a recent watercolor painting of a cute little white bunny with large, liquid eyes. I have painted him in softest of hues, using only Burnt Sienna, Pink and Payne's Gray to accentuate his whiteness against the white paper. It was painted totally wet-in-wet, with no brush marks visible; in order to give him a soft fur ball-like appearance. And those blooms around his eyes are intentional, too! Bunnies are a beautiful subject and a great addition to a child's room or even your living room. Its subdued colors ensure that the artwork will be in harmony with almost any wall color.”
“This piece is called ‘On the Shore’ and depicts a visually rich, organic landscape inspired by standing on the water’s edge. It tries to capture the natural beauty of pebbles on the beach, water lapping on the the sand, and a sea breeze. It was made by adding multiple layers of watercolour paint onto paper and detailing with a pencil.”
“This is an original mounted hand-cut/torn collage artwork of camper vans. Every element of the work has been cut/torn by hand using only papers recycled from magazines, then delicately layered to create a canvas painted with paper. I found an atlas which was about to be thrown away and enjoyed cutting out maps of UK locations to create these fun VW camper vans. Apart from the atlas all of the coloured paper used has been recycled from magazines, making it a truly eco artwork!”
“An original abstract seascape painting of Camusdarach Beach near Morar, Scotland. A dramatic mix of mediums were blended layered and splattered over the canvas to produce a very atmospheric painting depicting the ever changing wild weather that constantly sweeps across Scotland's islands and west coast from The Atlantic. I love to combine and layer the different types of paint and application of mediums, creating a unique style full of vibrant colour and drama. The painting continues around the deep edges of the canvas giving a very contemporary style although it can be framed if you wish.”

“In my work I combine painting, collage and decollage (cutting or sanding away the built up surface to reveal layers below). I am fascinated by the combination of text and image in art, and in 'Test’ the free association of the image with the cut-up text creates a humourous work with an ambiguous narrative. The text is cut from pages of novels. In my variation of the cut up technique I cut the ‘poem’ I create out in one section. This is distinct from the cut up technique of cutting out strips of words and re-arranging them randomly.”
