“The vast and isolated hillsides of the Howgill Fells have a quality all of their own. Overlooked by the majority of visitors who flock to the Lakeland Fells - and once described by Wainwright as 'sleeping elephants' - they whisper quietly in their isolation and ruggedness. I have attempted here to capture the vast swathes of grass and moorland with strong sweeping flows of paint as the hills interlock and shadow each other.”
