Art of the Day: "North Coast Squall, 2017" by John Halliday

An impressionist painting of a North Coast Squall, Ireland, the beaches are wide with crashing waves and often with a threat of rain. The wide stretches of sand and great big skies were the inspiration for this painting, the cool blue light contrasting with the dark blue clouds brewing over the sea as it rushes towards the shore.

I use the panoramic format in this painting to convey the wide expanse of land, sea and sky to capture the drama of a North Coast Squall. This is one of my favourite places to paint and has inspired several of my works.
