“A recent watercolor portrait of a majestic African Elephant, painted quite expressively; with fine mist of color spatter used to mimic texture of the leathery skin. The colors used are mostly earthy, with tones of violet to create contrast. Though I have painted elephants many, many times, I still find them irresistible as subjects for my animal portraits. I try to depict the grandeur and magnificence of these animals in colors which are not there at all when you look at the real ones - but still manage to convey the sense of energy and vigor.”
