“This is an oil painting of a mother and daughter that I met in Nice just days after the terrorist attack in 2016. The atmosphere seemed extremely volatile and, for me it reached a crescendo at the point when I first saw these two figures surrounded by contradictions. You can see slogans on the expensive shop windows claiming "life is beautiful".”
