Art of the Day: "dazzle, 2014" by Emily Hughes

“I found this unusual flower on a trip to Sri Lanka where the hotel grounds were scattered with them. After some research I discovered they are from the tree 'barringtonia racemosa', otherwise known as the 'powder puff tree'. They really do look like exquisite little powder puffs - dreamy, light and graceful. I love the way the festive shocks of vibrant pink and gold contrast against the creamy white. Here the dazzling yet delicate strands are proud, angular and vibrant against the dark grey concrete. I overlaid textures of crumbling Sri Lankan walls to the image to give added character.”

With this painting, I tried to illustrate my meditative state of mind. Gold and everything that shines and has worth are inside us. We must close our eyes to see things clearly and to find our inner treasure. Original acrylic painting. Signed on the front. Unique and one of a kind with a certificate of authenticity.
