    Pingky!

    Pingky!

I thought I would share a picture of the beautiful urangutan Pingky who I adopted last year! She was rescued through the Urangutan Outreach program in the Summer 2010 - Pingky was a 13-year-old female orangutan who was rescued from a garden behind a house hidden in a maze of small alleys in the remote city of Sintang, in the interior of West Kalimantan. When she was found she was tied to a tree with a rusty chain. Her neck had actually grown into the chain, making moving, eating, even drinking an ordeal for her. The wound on her neck was permanent and festering... Just as one can read so much of the character of an old person in their wrinkles, showing years of accumulated smiles or sadness, Pingky's face spoke of pure depression, deep sadness, and utter despair. Indeed, at that moment Pingky was the saddest orangutan in the world! However thanks to the love and care she has received at the sanctuary IAR Ketapang, she is now flourishing. This is a picture of her now! If you are interested in the wonderful work done in Bornio for displaced orangutans you can visit their website. Link through my website. I also have signed limited edition prints available of my urangutan painting 'The Future's in Our Hands' 25% of the sale price going to help rescue and rehabilitate wild orangutans like Pingky.

My latest painting is Monet's Bridge at Giverny! I loved painting this scene in late summer and thought I would do it again but this time in early summer, while the Wisteria was in full bloom. This is my biggest painting so far at 90cm x 90cm and I have kept it very loose and impressionistic using subtle distant greys and vibrant oranges in the forground!
