About Martin Wojnowski

  • Biography

Martin’s first works were watercolour illustrations of classical interiors. In the early 90s he worked for numerous London designers developing presentations of interior projects. He eventually started introducing elements of “the unexpected” hiding in some corner, book shelf or wardrobe. The otherwise bland, factual renderings gained more artistic value.

It is interesting to note that Martin's individual style incorporates various elements from different artistic movements, but Urban Realism appears to be the primary influence on his use of colour, composition, line texture, and form. Through his art Martin seems to capture the essence of the movement by depicting stark and empty spaces that convey the sense of desolation and isolation. These elements combined with the use of colour, composition, line texture and form create a powerful and thought provoking visual experience for the viewer.

Overall, Martin’s art provides a unique and poignant perspective on the urban landscape and the human condition within it. By drawing on the influences of Urban Realism and other artistic movements he has created a distinctive style that resonates with viewers and invites them to reflect (and question) on the world around them.

In visual storytelling, Martin uses his skills to create stories that can be interpreted by the viewer. The story can be based on real-life events, myths, fables, or something entirely fictional. He uses a combination of images, symbols, and colours to create a visual language that can be understood by the viewer (even though the interpretations can be deeply subjective). Martin’s art captures elusive beauty and mystery of the world around us, often ignored or unseen; hiding in the plain sight.

Extensive travelling triggers the creative drive and opens up the imagination. It provides fresh source of inspiration and stimulates the creativity. Seeing new places and meeting new people leads to discovery of new ideas and concepts.

Martin is proud of his global perspective and identity that transcends national boundaries and culture, despite holding British citizenship. He feels a sense of connection with people from different parts of the world and values diversity and multiculturalism. A true libertarian spirit.

Martin’s personality can be described as thoughtful and introspective. He appreciates humour and excels in sarcasm and irony. Die-hard critical thinker with a tireless desire to question everything around.

He produces about 20 artworks annually and has a strong following among collectors in Europe and the U.S.A. (and increasingly in the Far East.

Of course there are always challenges and obstacles to overcome in the art world but the artist’s dedication and talent will help him navigate those challenges and continue to grow and develop.
