  • Behind The Scenes in Transylvania - Stefan's Romanian Serenade.

    Stefan singing a traditional Romanian folk song for us at lunch. Behind The Scenes (BTS) of a photography adventure cycling through the countryside in Transylvania. I was invited to join a cycle trip through some of the beautiful Saxon villages in Transylvania, Romania. Working with the Global Heritage Fund we explored some of the work they do with restoration of the traditional architecture and way of life in these Saxon villages. I came back with lots of great new images in the bag. Some are already on Artfinder and more will be added over time.

    This is where I retreat after I've been out shooting, whether it's from travels or a commercial job. All my images will be carefully adjusted to convey best how I remember the atmosphere at the moment it was taken. I rarely do much changes of my images beside contrast, colour, exposure and spotting/clean-up - I prefer to keep them as real as possible and rely on composition and framing to create the impact. To achieve this the best way I rely on my many years of experience, and state-of-the-art colour-calibrated equipment. Today the studio is a bit unusually tidy, so I thought it was a good day to get a photo taken of my post production work-space.

    While staying in Hue for some days we booked ourselves on a popular tour of the Demilitarised Zone in the area. This image is from The American Airstrip at Khe Sanh, where you can walk around and see the captured American planes, helicopters and armoured vehicles.

    I spend a lot of time on the ground...

    I spend a lot of time on the ground...

    Often, to get the desired shot it means I have to get down on the ground - sometimes I get away with just sitting down but at other times I'm flat on my stomach or on my back. I've gathered an impressive amount of dust and dirt over the years :-).

    This was taken in Kathmandu, Nepal back in December 2012 while walking around the ancient Durbar Square. I often have to line up my shot and wait for the right moment to press the button, whether that is to wait for a moment when there is no people in the frame, or for people to be in the right position for the composition I want.
