  • Herald of Spring

I often use metal leaf in my work but it's not easy to photograph so here's a quick video from my work bench of a small canvas that really packs a punch!

    Just hanging

    Just hanging

What a busy few weeks! Here's me, the day after finishing Devon Open Studios with fellow Artfinder artist Jill Griffin, hanging our next exhibition at the National Trust's Killerton House as part of the group DevonArtPop. Beautiful venue. Beautiful art!

    I like big pics!

    I like big pics!

As you can see, this a BIG painting! I'm working on this piece as part of an exhibition to be held at the National Trust's Buckland Abbey in June and it's the view back through the wild garden towards the abbey - gorgeous in the Spring when it comes alive with bluebells, primroses, violets, wild garlic, rhododendrons, camellias, forget-me-nots.........wonderful!

    New year, new plans!

    New year, new plans!

So much work to do, paintings to paint, walls to fill.....but first, inspiration and for me that means lots of visits to lovely gardens! Here I am last year at the gorgeous Buckland Abbey soaking up the atmosphere and generally enjoying my job! Who knows what will flow out of my brush this year? Can't wait to get started.

    Inspiration

I was looking back at the few paintings I still have from childhood and this one was a turning point for me: it's my first en plein air (admittedly only in the garden) when I was almost 12 years old and the first flower I remember painting well. Over 40 years later I'm still painting flowers and loving every minute!

    Up and Running...

    Up and Running...

I love hanging day! A new place, a new exhibition and a new audience for my work. At the moment I have aound 40 originals in various galleries around the UK (and one in Australia) as well as what you see in my Artfinder shop. So if sometimes there are fewer pieces available here, that's the reason. However don't worry - I'm always painting new images so watch this space!

    Another day, another exhibition.....

    Another day, another exhibition.....

I'm off to the Royal Horticultural Society's Rosemoor garden to hang my small exhibition there in the Lecture room. It's such a wonderful place to visit if plants and flowers are your thing and I always come back with so much inspiration!

    Autumn has blown in!

    Autumn has blown in!

The season has turned and here we are in a wet and windy Autumn. Living in south Devon is always great though - near the sea and the moors, inspiration lies at every turn.

    It's a Tough Job.....

    It's a Tough Job.....

Florals are my thing! Show me a garden and I'll paint you a picture. I spend a lot of time visiting gardens and becoming absorbed in the ever-changing scenes they present as the year rolls round so here I am smelling the roses and getting inspired even as the cooler seasons approach. There's always something to discover even when the garden goes to sleep!

    Springtime Adventures

    Springtime Adventures

Oh boy am I enjoying the Spring! Sunshine and flowers - so many flowers :-) I've been travelling a long the South coast of England, delivering paintings, arranging exhibitions and finding renewed inspiration in the abundance of gardens to visit on the way.

    RHS Rosemoor

    RHS Rosemoor

So I'm not technically working here but as you can see from the background, the garden at Rosemoor in Torrington, North Devon is one of my favourite places to visit for inspiration. Whatever time of year I go, there is always something to catch the eye and I come away with so many photos as source material for my next project. This was taken last November and the colours were still amazing in spite of the time of year. I'll be exhibiting there next year with a group of artists called DevonArtPop and in 2017 I'll be having a solo exhibition too. Exciting!
