About Talia Russell

  • Biography

Talia Russell is a large-scale silk screen artist renowned for transforming iconic, familiar landscapes into vibrant, playful, and nostalgic imagery. Drawing inspiration from vintage travel posters, Russell’s distinctive style features vivid colour combinations and striking graphic compositions, which have become central to her artistic practice. The large-scale nature of the prints further enhances the immersive experience, allowing audiences to interact with the artwork on a grand, impactful scale. In a time when many screen printers outsource printing, Russell’s commitment to hand-printing is rare and integral to her practice. Maintaining control over the process ensures the highest quality and preserves the integrity of her artistic vision.  Through this fusion of nostalgia and modernism, Russell invites viewers to see the world through a new, playful lens.

Talia holds a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Victoria University (1995) and studied printmaking at Leeds College of Art (2012). Talia was granted an Artist in Residence position at Ink Workshop Ltd (2014) and co-founding the Leeds Print Fair, she returned to New Zealand in 2017 and now works from her studio in Mahurangi West.
