    Vintage Cameras

    Vintage Cameras

In the last couple of years I've started to use much older vintage cameras for my photography. I have a real soft spot for the folding cameras from the 40s and 50s. This Rolleiflex Automat (the one that really started it all) dates to 1938 and is a joy to use and probably operates just as it did back in the day. You'll start to see more of the images listed here shot with that camera.

Still shooting film for my photography

Still shooting film for my photography

Film photography is an important media for me. Though much of my work is with digital cameras I still like to create photography using film. It's special, it slows me down, makes me more considered in how I compose a scene and there is still something so magical about the expectation of waiting for a film to be developed, whether I do it myself or sent it off to the lab.

My favorite camera bag and equipment

My favorite camera bag and equipment

I’m a firm believer in “it’s not what you’ve got; its how you use it!” Nevertheless, I know some people are interested in what gear I use. My workhorses are Canon 5d’s. Lenses of choice are: 16-35mmL, 24-105L, 70-200L, and the 50mm. I’ve got two flash guns and a sturdy tripod. I also use a Leica MP with 35mm & 90mm lenses. Much of my travel and street photography is shot with this and my film of choice is Kodak’s TriX & Tmax for black and white and Fuji Velvia for colour. Occasionally, I’ll dig out my Bronica SQAI, which is a 6×6 medium format camera. It’s a brick to carry and slows me down so I don’t get to use it as much as I would like.

Framed Photos in cafe retail space

Framed Photos in cafe retail space

My prints have been purchased by all sorts of individuals and businesses. Here's an example of a retail cafe space who ordered 30 x 20 inch framed prints to hang in their new cafe space. I'm happy to produce sizes and finishes to fit so feel free to get in touch if you have something in mind.

    Me at work

    Me at work

I was about 15 when I took this photograph. It was taken on a no-name brand camera with equally no-name brand 35mm film. It’s by no means an award winner, but this picture was to have a significant influence on me because I discovered that photography had the power to instantly capture a memory, a mood, an emotion. Even today, many years later, I can look at this image and recall exactly how I was feeling. Such happy contentment, not a care in the world, floating along, the sun shining, my Walkman playing… I can even remember what I was listening to.
