About Patrick Santoni

Initially, I created street art while studying fine art and architecture, but I quickly discovered the benefit of brushes over spray paint. Over the years, my protest work led me to paint more realistic and rebellious works, based on advertising and punctuated by slogans. Using smooth paint with little matter and a systematic use of sfumato, these artworks were similar to those of the classical painters. In 2010, I started to question my work and begun a study based on landscapes. Using the small format from a photographic base, I now lean toward creating pictorial work which includes more matter and transparency. My landscapes always portray a protest, reveal an ideological commitment or societal drift, and are often linked to childhood, the hopes born out of childhood and the consequent disillusionment of adulthood. My job is not merely visual - it raises questions and opens-up debate. Images from the television or internet are the catalysts for my production.
