Painting Children of the Sun

Painting Children of the Sun

Getting close to completing the painting, Children of the Sun. A typical workflow for me in oils is to make a correctly proportioned pencil drawing, then create an underpainting in a thin layer of acrylic. After that has dried I go in with the oils and cover the surface with a first pass. This first pass solves all the major colour and value problems and builds on the foundation of that solid drawing. The final layer comes next which takes care of detail, texture and any small adjustments that need to be made.

Drawing Tools

Drawing some tricky elements for a watercolour painting. On the side are some Holbein watercolours and some highly granulating watercolour pans from Kremer Pigments, including a cobalt turquoise light that is unrivalled in its beauty.
