  • Biography

Reading fictional literature led me to contemplate on how the self exists in relation to the outside forces. Viewers are encouraged to dive into their own consciousness and engage in a conversation with their own spirituality. The figures are simplified to its bare essential form to symbolize the concept of being rather than to represent reality. Inspired by the style of science fiction, I construct images that seem alien or distant to reveal something deeply human, something that we have no adequate words for but can be experienced through images. This is especially pressing in an age where spiritually charged content is urgently needed to counter the emptiness of the ephemeral internet culture. A significant inspiration for me was Ted Chiang’s collection of short stories, Stories of Your Life and Others, as well as the science fiction animation Fantastic Planet. I also look at artists like Agnes Pelton, de Chirico, Gertrude Abercrombie and Katherine Bradford.
