    Painting Competitions & Fairs

    When the sun shines you can find me out and about. Here I am pictured working outdoors at a local fair demonstrating pastel painting. Also shown is one of my outdoor paintings in the Lake District as a wildcard artist for Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2016 along with some of the materials I use i.e. pastels and Golden Fluid Acrylics and a small outdoor sketch of a tree stump that I found interesting..

    Working on a large portrait commission (2012)

    This is me working on a large portrait commission back in 2012 which consisted of 4 large single portraits (1m x 80 cm) of children and one group portrait in oils on board. At this stage had finished blocking in and was glazing and adding more details, depth and highlights.

    I love the landscape and travelling to visit places of beauty in Ireland, Scotland and England on a regular basis. I enjoy the mountains, lakes, rivers and most especially the sea. Some of my journeys have taken me overseas to Spain, Portugal, Venice, Sweden, San Francisco, Tenerife and Morroco. Here I am in the Lake District on a sketching trip back in 2007. It was a beautiful but cold day and the light was just right.

    As an artist I love to share my skills and inspiration by teaching others. This was one of those occasions where I get a chance to get out and about to meet and engage with other artists and the public. This demonstration was a portrait of Prince William, 40 x 50 cm oil on canvas board which now forms part of my own private collection of works.
