Canson Aquarelle Paper - Close up

If you haven't guessed from my images and my blurbs, I am in love with Canson Aquarelle Paper. It is hard to convey the difference beautiful paper makes to an image but this paper blows my mind. It is bright white, renders fabulously intense colours and has a wonderful texture like a heavy weight watercolour paper. Youmay wonder why go to the bother of seeking out great paper but if you want a print to become a family heirloom and last without fading for a lifetime, then Canson papers are what you need. It took me years of testing and practice at printing to get the whole process just right. Of course it is very expensive paper, but if it is the best for the image then that is what I use. Occasionally, I will use a smooth paper or a metallic paper or a paper that has a shine to it but each of those have been specifically chosen to match the image.

The Quiraing in Summer - Land of Giants

My huge printer in action printing out this gloriously green canvas of the view from the Quiraing in Summer here on Skye. This is a dramatic image that looks stunning on the wall at 60 x 40 inches.

Me and Pip at Loch Eck

Me and Pip at Loch Eck

The deep dark waters of Loch Eck, a mysterious quiet place surrounded by endless pine trees. Pip, my sometime companion is dabbling in the water. I know I am not going to stay long today as she gets bored quickly especially when wet. Her favourite tactic when she wants to leave is to sit in front of the camera on a rock until I pay attention. Sadly, although I love the company, she cannot come on all my trips, or I would get nothing done!

Taking a break on location on the Isle of Harris -

The lifestyle of a photographer sounds very romantic, and it is my dream come true. But, there are times when I am knee deep in cold water, times when I have stayed too long on the beach and found the tide coming in behind me, and times when I have travelled five hours each way in snow to a location only to come home frustrated and empty handed. In the words of performance artist Marina Abramovic, 'Don't even ask me why. I do not know, I have no answer to this insane behaviour.' Then there are the days when the romance of photography brings it's rewards. This image was one of those luxury moments. Taken on location on the Isle of Harris at Luskentyre Beach at the south end of the island. The heat (?) of a late February afternoon managed to warm the sand just enough for me to sit and listen to the waves.

On Display at The Colintraive Hotel

The Colintraive Hotel is one of those little gems hidden away in a remote corner of Scotland. Close to the ferry to Bute and on the edge of some of the most popular sailing locations it is romantic and cosy. I have a permanent exhibition here in rooms that perfectly set off my work.

    The Black Cuillin

    The Black Cuillin

This is one of my exhibits from the New York exhibition which got a lot of enthusiasm. In particular the dreamy impressionist style caught people's imagination and I was delighted with the comments it received. It comes in sizes up to 30 inches to make a fantastic statement piece for any room.

The 2013 Exhibition in New York

The 2013 Exhibition in New York

I was lucky enought to be invited to exhibit in New York a couple of years ago which was a lot of fun. The exhibition was mobbed and so busy you could hardly move and the popping of champagne corks added to the merriment. I was delighted with the comments I received, people liked the style and the Scottish theme of my work.
