    Flashback I

    What is behind the making and the meaning of this colourful wood sculpture? - The making involved many hours of cutting the pieces with an X-ACTO knife, sanding them and applying gesso before painting them with acrylic paint. The pieces were assembled one by one using medium to glue them on top of each other on a cradled wood panel. Three coats of varnish were then applied to preserve the art work as well as to solidify it. - First of all, I wanted to make something that reached beyond the borders of a canvas as everything always seems set within set borders. I wanted the flower to stand out in a special manner related to the 1970's when Americans celebrated the first Earth Day and the National Environmental Policy Act, The Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act were passed. The Colors I used represent the colors of my carefree teenage years growing up in a tumultuous time.
