About Lisa Larrabee

  • Biography
Years ago I got excited by the idea of combining the portrait or figure with their environment. I began by experimenting with overlapping and fusing landscape elements with figures. Over time my process became more abstract and intuitive as well as more conceptual. My paintings visually convey the intangible connection between people, nature and the subconscious. My unique process begins with an expressive and textured surface. I use oil paint, cold wax medium and mixed media with improvised tools, rollers and pallet knives before refining my image with traditional oil painting methods. The effect feels both timeless and contemporary. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Kansas City Art Institute followed by a Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. My paintings and portrait commissions are in private collections across the country, and I’ve shown in a variety of national and international juried exhibitions. I love to experiment and my artwork evolves as a result.
