About Letizia Pecci

  • Biography
I was born in 1971 in Florence, where I combined studies in literature and philosophy with those in art history and with my passion for drawing and painting. Moving to Berlin with my family in 2000 brought stylistic enrichment and continuous innovation in the use of mixed media painting.
My art stems from a desire to interpret the real world by going beyond the eye's natural instinct to recognize what it observes, whether it be landscapes, female faces or natural subjects, and to be able to go in depth of things. My objective is therefore to invite to see beneath the first 'skin' of a pictorial subject and in the thickness of the layers of composition; where chalk, colour, ink and different types of paper overlap themselves, generating patterns, nets, graphic designs, spots but also material folds. Indeed, looking at this dense network of 'connections' and material layers gives the real key to understand all the represented subjects: the hidden interiority that provides substance and value to the surface. My artworks reflect my intimate effort to recreate a “world” as a place where reality can blend with the unreal and where the freedom to be oneself overcomes stereotypes.
