About Karen Lintott

  • Biography

I am interested in the idea of creating work that gives the viewer visual pleasure.  I find myself drawn to the vibrant colour, pattern, and texture combinations that are found in the natural and man-made world.

My work involves a process that includes using computer technology and a variety of textile techniques to create bright jewel like pieces.  I manipulate photographs of dissected electronics on the computer to create vibrant abstract images that have become ambiguous in the process.  I then use textiles to make new marks in a painterly manner.  I enjoy exploring the relationship between materials, texture and colour, working instinctively to produce combinations that ‘zing’.

Artists that have informed my work include abstract artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro.  Contemporary artists who work with colour and abstract themes such as Dan Perfect, Barbara Rae and Mark Francis have also influenced me.  Textile artist Joana Vasconcelos, whose solo show at the Manchester Art Gallery confirmed my understanding of textiles in contemporary arts.
