    The Ethno Festival "Kraїna Mriy" in Kyiv, UKRAINE

    Kyiv - summer 2023. For the first time in several years, the ethno festival "Kraїna Mriy" is being held. These years have been very strange and tragic. Humanity has experienced a pandemic. And now, there is a war in Ukraine. The most devastating since World War II. The entire territory of Ukraine is under attack by ballistic and cruise missiles. Over 5,000 such missiles have already been launched by Russia on peaceful cities in Ukraine. Additionally, new hypersonic missiles are being used, capable of destroying entire residential blocks. This was unheard of in World War II. Of course, in the first year of full-scale invasion in Ukraine, festivals were not held for safety reasons. But the people who stayed in Ukraine have earned the right to have at least a little celebration. Our battered and hardened psyche needs it. We are no longer afraid of anything. Because life is more important than anything, even more important than death. It was a very festive and joyful festival with Ukrainian folk songs and rock music. There were also ancient Cossack songs. We were lucky - there were no air alarms during that time, and we didn't have to hide in bomb shelters. However, the festival ended at 10 PM because from midnight until morning, a curfew is in effect in Ukraine, which means that only military personnel are allowed on the streets. That's how we live in Kyiv during the war.

    BEAUTIFUL KYIV

    This morning, I woke up and felt a long-forgotten sensation of wanting to do something interesting. I was so surprised! It's been a month since I've been waking up exhausted due to the nightly shelling. But last night, there were none. The air raid siren didn't go off. I didn't hear a series of terrifying explosions, and my house didn't shake. I simply slept!!! Today, simply getting a full night's sleep is a privilege! May 2023 will be remembered for the daily rocket attacks on Kyiv. Many people spend the night in the metro. I sleep in the closet, away from the windows. No, I don't sleep; I doze off for an hour in the evening, then wake up to the city's air raid siren, followed by endless explosions until morning, and at dawn, everything quiets down, allowing me to sleep for a couple of hours. It went on like this for a whole month. And only today did I get some rest.. And I decided to paint a beautiful and invincible Kyiv! This incredibly beautiful city cannot be destroyed! History knows Kyiv as the 'Mother of Russian cities!' How can they bombard Kyiv with rockets?!! This will be a series of paintings in which I will show you the beauty of this city!

    I didn't know what I would be painting today. I decided to follow my intuition. I went down to the subway and took a ride to the University station. There, I found an old botanical garden. I wondered if the garden wanted to be captured on my canvas. I had expected to paint city streets... But suddenly, I noticed that the rhododendrons were still blooming and found a suitable spot for my art. And you know what? I liked the outcome. What about you?...

    This painting was done en plein air. I spent a long time searching for the right view for my artwork but couldn't find it. There was an abundance of cottonwood fluff on Trukhanov Island that kept getting into my eyes and nose without permission. I ventured a bit deeper into the island, only to be greeted by swarms of mosquitoes. Disheartened, I made my way along the pedestrian bridge, constantly brushing off the cottonwood fluff from my face. After crossing to the other bank, I sat down to rest on the embankment—and there, I witnessed the most exquisite hues of a pearlescent sunset. I quickly started painting, as twilight fades away so swiftly...

    Exhibition in the capital of Ukraine.

    In Kyiv, on the main street of Khreshchatyk, an exhibition of broken Russian equipment has opened. I had to wake up with the sun to shoot the video. Because there are too many people here during the day and in the evening. There are also many tourists who are not afraid to cross the border of Ukraine during the war. Please watch my video.     Top again!

    A few months of fleeing the war reduced my income to zero. But now I have returned to Kyiv and continued to create paintings. Yes, the war continues. Yes, Russian missiles are falling. Yes, I sleep in a bomb shelter. Yes, I wake up from air raid sirens. Yes, I understand that I can die at any moment. But I'm at home... And I feel good here... And I'm not afraid...

    IRPIN - MY APARTMENT SURVIVED

    On May 28, I returned to Ukraine. There is still a war going on here. Russian invaders kill, rob, destroy houses, rape women and children. They also visited my city of Irpin. The Ukrainian army drove them out of the Kyiv region. Check out this video to see what's left of them. This is what I saw when I returned to Irpin.

    My plein air in London is over. Now I'm heading to Poland. And I'll be there for one or two weeks. And if possible, I will return to Kyiv for a short time. Yes, it's dangerous, but this is my home.
