About Jan Aanstoot

Jan (Wierden 1948) studied at the Academy of Art in Arnhem (Holland)

In the beginning he painted how it was teached, in a realistic way.

Bit by bit the landscapes losts their horizon and their structure of creating space.

More and more his work became expressionistic and abstract.

Music (Bach, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Brel) is a big source of inspiration.

First of all, there is a certain image that forces itself upon him and demands to be painted. Where it springs from, which experiences or emotions, is not something that particularly interests him, all that matters is this image, the size and form and colour. Whether or not the image will be visualized at the end of the day is an entirily different matter altogether. While painting you constantly come across new elements. Some of them are rejected while working, others find an unexpected place, changing what had once served as the point of departure. That search, that is what really matters to Jan: painting as a process that results in an image that makes you realize that this was what you had been looking for all the time. Looking for what is unsought and attempting to visualize it: that is the crux of his entire oeuvre.

Jan had a lot of exhibitions in Holland, but also in France (Paris, Ermont, Lille and Nice).In Italy ( Florence, Cortona and Monte San Savino), Zürich (Switserland) and several times in Dubai.
