We found Helen's work shortly after a memorable encounter with an American Bittern at Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge in Washington State — four feet away, five seconds, then gone back into the reeds. A week later we found Bittern in the Reeds and bought it immediately. The other two followed. What we didn't expect is that the three prints — Murmuration Over the Lake, Bittern in the Reeds, and Marsh Mallows — would form such a coherent triptych despite not being a formal series. We live in the Pacific Northwest. The view out our window is green canopy and open sky, same palette as these prints. They don't feel like English art on an American wall. They feel like nature, which has no nationality. Up close you see the labor — every reed, every marsh mallow flower, every layer of the sky in Marsh Mallows individually cut and printed. From across the room it resolves into atmosphere.

The piece is lovely, just as described. I bought it to go into a small mid-century modern frame I had picked up a few years ago, this piece fits the frame perfectly in size and style.
