About Helen Finney

  • Biography

Originally from Kent, my family moved to Wales whilst I was still in school and have lived and worked here ever since. My initial training was in technical illustration, which I studied for four years, going on to work as an illustrator and graphic designer for a decade before deciding to take a change of direction.

I returned to university to study fine art and have been working and exhibiting both here and abroad since then, returning once again for post graduate study after a three year gap.

I am an avid proponent of the importance of drawing in art, I regularly attend life-drawing sessions and consider this the fundamental basis of my work.

I try to exhibit my work three or four times a year, there is a list of where and when these have been on my website. I mainly show in group shows; painting is such an insular pass time that coming together with other artist to show work is a joy. I have also had several solo shows in Swansea, London and Birmingham.

I have recently started painting on a larger scale which I am enjoying thoroughly, I am fascinated by the human face and how we react to it.
