    Terra | STRETCHING MYSELF

    Every artist know it's critical to to stay fresh and grow... so you've got to try something new. I've never done an organic multimedia this large. I'm having fun with pastel and charcoal on top of acrylic paint. Love it.

    Grab those tools...

    I like big palette knives and brushes... I love pushing medium around on canvas to understand what properties it has. Sometimes I'm in awe of how rich a color can become when married with another, or how the texture of the canvas showing through thrills me. Sounds silly, but t hat's how my mind works.

    Feet on the Ground...

    Quite often the floor is the place for me. If I don't' want vertical drip line and want to see some shapes that naturally evolve from letting the paint spread horizontally, with glazes, for instance, the floor is the best.

    LEANING IN

    I want my eye to pick up patterns up close as well as from a distance. Subtleties add drama when one discovers ever more detail the closer one moves in to "Contracted Decision", in this case. A palette knife truly makes my day.

    This is who I am. When I was practicing architecture, that was who I was. I enjoy the simplicity of paint much more than codes, steel and deadlines. I did it well. Anything done well is where I feel most at home; the place where my heart is glad.
