    Art in Space

    Art in Space

Earlier this year my work was launched into space! My work was etched onto the side panels of one of Planet Labs Super Dove Satellites which was then put through weeks of assembly and testing in their San Francisco clean room and then shipped to the launch facility in Florida, USA. The artwork was inspired by space travel so it’s fitting that the drawing ended up on a satellite in orbit. I loved drawing and playing with a new brief that included no color and the design itself could only cover 20% of the reflector panel or the panel would not work in the correct way.

Solo show! Hannah Pratt | Jupiter

One of my Solo shows last year, I was very happy to be invited to take over the custom built gallery space at Jupiter, 70 Victoria Street. I exhibited mainly new works in the show which was lovely as thanks to the pandemic many of the works had been confined to my studio.

    Just keep sewing.

    Just keep sewing.

I've always loved sewing but never managed to get around to using it in my work, however when the pandemic hit I decided to start sewing to help me relax. Since then I have been making textile and thread-based works along with digital techniques I have been using for years in my practice.

This piece required so many different coloured threads my studio was an organised chaos for a while!

Creating the Colour of Starlight part 1

Creating the Colour of Starlight part 1

As I get a lot of questions about my process I thought I would do a series of posts about my process in creating my last two projects including The Colour or Starlight. It all begins with the night sky. Having loved photography in the past I was glad to pick up my camera again and develop my skills with astrophotography which is challenging because the relationship you have with light and your camera is the opposite of how you are taught to use a camera in ample light/studio conditions. I try and go places I know have very low light pollution at night, set up my camera and hope for the best! These photographs were taken in Italy, France and unbelievably in London. Stay tuned for part 2!

Me at Work #1 - Sewing Starlight Threads - Draco

Me at Work #1 - Sewing Starlight Threads - Draco

Hi everyone, welcome to my Art Finder "Me at Work" blog. Firstly my name is Hannah and I am an artist based in south London and I work in various different mediums, subjects and materials. My main inspiration is the interdisciplinary relationship between art and science, particularly astronomy and data. My Starlight Threads series of works on paper combines these two great loves of mine by using image recognition code and AI to analyse the colours found in Starlight. How I get to the final pieces is quite a journey and has several different steps which I will explain in later posts but for now please take a look at my shop and my socials for more updates and where to see my work. Thanks!
