  • Biography
I am a photographer and painter inspired by Abstract Expressionist works by painters such as Mark Rothko.
In my photography work I try to capture everyday features of the urban environment in a unique way that highlights their beauty and aesthetic qualities. I call these images "Photo Abstracts". As I develop this practise I realise that one of the chief things that interests me about it is how these images are of things that were created by chance, which is the bridge to the other side of my practise.
My painting and drawing also addresses this idea of chance, by starting each work with no idea of what the finished result will be, I try to access themes buried in the subconscious and create outcomes that I could not have imagined at the beginning of the process. I try to use lots of unplanned painting techniques - such as flicking and dripping, found materials and automatic writing text to further enhance these unplanned elements.
