Abstract painting has always been the most magnetic for me, I think because it allows the viewer to participate in the art form by imposing their own interpretations on the results. This painting really spoke to me in the way that most of Mr. Whelan's exceptional work does. His pieces, for me, exhibit a sort of trompe-o'oeil effect of much of the Earth's finest. I get to revel in clouds, oceans, seas, rivers, islands, rock formations, and even satellite imagery - all in the abstract. As an amateur rockhound, Earth Faces VII, in particular, reminds me of slices of geodes that display their growth habits by featuring sinuously formed interiors. I don't know if Mr. Whelan has meant to capture any of these visuals in his work, but it's their likenesses to these images that have really captured me.

I first laid eyes on Mr. Whelan's work roughly 2 yrs ago. I became so captivated by it that I am now the proud owner of 7 of his paintings! I've heard that it's bad form to have a favorite amongst your children, but I have to admit that this painting is my absolute favorite. From the beginning, I've had a special affinity for the Zephyr series, but it was all sold out by the time I came along. So, when he recently added VIII to this series, my lust for this painting went into overdrive. All I had to do was hold my breath and pray that no one else would snatch it up before I could. Yay...it's mine, and I'm a very happy camper! It is even more impressive, more beautiful in person than it was online. Somehow, it exudes a textural quality that's almost 3-dimensional. I wouldn't dare, but while studying the piece, I'm tempted to run my fingers all over the canvas just to feel the image. The artist, himself, is equally as impressive as the work he produces. Mr. Whelan is always very cordial and responsive, and I'm still in awe of how quickly I receive my purchases from him (Maryland, US) all the way from Germany. Each has been so securely wrapped and bound that I never have to worry whether my artwork will arrive unscathed through its travels. My entire experience with Artfinder and Mr. Whelan has been nothing but joy, and I look forward to many more purchases with both.

Fintan is great! Pays close attention to detail. The original frame of the piece had a minor issue with it that he noticed prior to shipping and let me know alternative options. Was quick to get the piece delivered. I look forward to getting this piece hung and am happy to have it added to my home collection!

Dealing with Fintan was an absolute pleasure. The painting was a Christmas present for my wife and was unfortunately delayed at the docks due to the COVID lockdown of ports. Fintan sent a lovely personal message to my wife for her to open on Christmas day. The painting arrived on the 29th December and we are both delighted with it.
