    My Early Work

    My Early Work

    20+ Years ago I began painting. I started out by taking instruction at a local art studio. After I had completed a few "follow the leader" type paintings I wanted to do my own. This painting is my first attempt at working on my own. I painted it from a picture I had snapped while vacationing in Bruges earlier that year. It still hangs in my dining room, of course looking at it now I see many things I would do differently, were I to paint it now ;) Not too bad though, for my first attempt at what would eventually become my career.

    Cold Wax and Oils

    I've always painted with oils but a while back I began adding cold wax to some of my pieces. It gives the paint a buttery texture and somewhat translucent appearance which works well with the palette knife and assorted squeegees that are used in this method of adding and removing paint. I place the wood panels on this old TV tray while I manipulate the paint and wax to achieve, hopefully, the desired effect.

    Studio

    I'm an early riser.....I like to have my first cup of coffee before the sun comes up. After I take care of the business side of my painting, I head down here to work. I always listen to either music or recorded books while I paint.

    My house was built in 1882. My studio is the entire basement, which has windows all around and wonderful stone walls. Great space to create....I love it!
