About Emmy Ivanova

  • Biography

I am an artist, currently based in London, who graduated with an Animation and Film Making Degree at Middlesex University with a lot of love for visual story telling, design, illustration and concept art.

Most of my artwork are an exploration of my imagination, but they would be generally inspired by children's books I used to have as a child. My favourite ones were all set in magical worlds, featuring forest animals or tiny people living in mushrooms, or inside trees and using the normal everyday objects that we do, but made of natural products. These creatures were always finding themselves in all kinds of adventures and I loved imagining I am part of them. I wanted to have artworks like these on my walls, to create a fictional city with tiny creatures living there as if they were us, going about their everyday life in nature. I wanted it to have the colours and details, like the ones I starred at for hours and hours, and every time I looked at them there were new things I would notice.

Designing characters, setting up magical worlds, and telling stories to people by visualising them as a painting sounds like the perfect thing to me.

I inject a lot of love in each and every piece of artwork I make. They have been created over months of research and development to the finished product, with a lot of patience and attention to detail, which I hope is translated. The majority of my work is done by hand on watercolour paper or handmade Indian paper with watercolours. I like to imagine people will get one of my paintings, putting them up on their wall, and getting lost in them, forgetting the stress of everyday life. I do hope they love every painting as much as I did while creating it.
