  • Biography
I am a Scottish figurative artist living in a conservation village in East Lothian. Italy was my first love and is often at the heart of my work, having lived there decades ago.
The figure is always my starting point whether I am working in oils, fluid acrylics, mixed media, ink and bleach or monoprinting. Recently I have been experimenting with recycling discarded paintings into mixed media, collaged pieces, placing the figure in one of my favourite Italian cities. Other subjects are exhausted ballet dancers, statues of angels and figures influenced by the Austrian Secession, especially Shiele and Klimt. Some of my paintings can be seen on my female mannequin torsos, A Body of Angels and Homage to Klimt. I am currently working on two new mannequins, one male and one female. The male torso will feature my paintings from the series, Homage to Italy, portraying a beautiful youth in Venice, Verona and as an angel with a vibrant young female in Florence.
