About Elaine Ford

  • Biography
My work is an amalgamation of drama, imagination, and memory, with elements of the sublime.  I have a passion for the sea, which is my initial starting point and touchstone.  The interaction with materials is the way I engage myself with the unconscious/subconscious and actual sea and concepts of the sea.  This, I can feel free to use in whichever direction I choose. The physical act of pouring and pushing paint around the canvas is an intrinsic part of my practice.

Having pursued a career in television and films for many years as a stunt co-ordinator and performer, has led to "the dramatic" being an important value in my life.  Subsequently, these qualities have been my guideline for the constituents of my art making within the last few years.  Filming on location involves one becoming part of the landscape, as it is transformed into a film set.  This then becomes another place, one that doesn't really exist, making it timeless.  This inspires me to transfer the idea into a painting.
