Thanks for watching, please consider subscribing for more content! This is me painting on of the pieces for a group exhibition which opens in 2 weeks!! This video is a time lapse creating a portrait on 30x30cm Gallery wrapped canvas: Please feel free to ask any questions. I have used; Oil Paints, various colours, Drip glaze/varnish, made with Damar Varnish (hand made), turpentine and Sikativ. Created in my Art Studio in Middlesbrough. An Expressive and gestural portrait piece! I don’t create pieces to be super realistic, but more an expression of feeling or personality!

    "aboutFace"

"aboutFace!" A short video exploring my current solo exhibition at The Python Gallery in Middlesbrough, this opened on the 15th of March, with a well-attended private view, and the show remains open until the 26th of April 2019. The show is culmination of a years work created in both my normal studio in Middlesbrough and the studio at my residency placement - so my thanks go to Stockton Sixth Form College for allowing me to be their artist in residence. There is painting, drawing and print making in the show. Thanks for watching, please consider subscribing for more content! Please feel free to ask any questions. The work is a retrospective, created in new pieces. Exploring and revisiting past paintings, projects and ideas. A nostalgic look at memories of work, thoughts and life events. An exploration of memory, and that part between real memories and false remembering - was it the photo I remembered, or do I really remember the events? References are made to artists who have been influences and continue to be. Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Richter, Saville. Significant life events are explored through painting, past traumas and experiences as well as familial situations. The abstraction of the painted surface, the canvas or paper, through the searching investigations of fateful life events, become not only about the subject or object being depicted, but become an object itself, the sides of the canvas, the colour and the drips are equal in significance to the represented “image”. Pieces are worked and reworked, layered and overlaid, playing with scale, redaction and layering with inks, oils, glazes and varnish all explored to create pieces which are neither traditional nor safe.
