  • Biography
    "Hi, I'm Claire Desjardins.

It's really nice to meet you.

I help to create happiness by infusing moments of joy in everyday lives."

Claire Desjardins (b. 1965, Montreal) is an award-winning Canadian artist living and working in Gore, Quebec. Working primarily in painting, her formally driven work focuses on gesture and colour, emphasizing energetic, animated brush strokes and bold palettes. Her work is both highly abstract and highly personal, a dynamic expression of sentiments or reactions of which she is consciously unaware.

She regularly exhibits her work in galleries and art fairs throughout North America. In addition, she frequently teaches painting workshops and has served as a jury member on several national art prizes.

Claire has been involved with various corporate collaborations, including The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Microsoft, Nuvango, Gelaskins, and Shutterfly, among others. In Spring 2019, Claire launched her new signature collection of art apparel, Claire Desjardins, which is sold in stores across the US and in Canada, and in the UK.

She has live-painted on stage with the likes of Randy Bachman and Blue Rodeo and Styx. Her artwork was auctioned off, and the 100% of the proceeds were donated to help sick kids. She has participated in a number of charitable events.

Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections around the world.

A home holds within its walls a wide spectrum of comfort, warmth, rituals, habits, irritations, peace, sorrows, and joy. The perceptions of its objects, smells, colours, and textures are different to its various inhabitants, simultaneously holding the mundane and the unforgettable in the same space.

Like all my paintings, this body of work is personal. In it I express my strong connection to my home: everyday routines, memories of the past, the special corner where I keep my coffee paraphernalia, a place where I can be frazzled, a place where I can be calm. The textures (sometimes painted with a kitchen spatula, often on wood panel), the colours (abundant, provocative), and the various shapes all come from my relationship with my home.
