    The 2T-press in my studio

This is a self-built hydraulic press, made from recycled furniture wood and fitted with a 2-ton car jack, used to press freshly made sheets before printing. The same press doubles as a block press for other work in the studio. Every drypoint I make on handmade paper starts here; the paper becomes part of the artwork's totality.

    Printing with my 100-year-old press

    Printing with my 100-year-old press

The etching press in the studio, with an inked drypoint plate positioned on the cutting mat before printing. The mat's grid helps line up the plate precisely under the roller; from here it goes through the press to pull the impression.

    Working on a commission

    Working on a commission

A commissioned pet portrait in progress, worked from several reference photographs of the same dog. The client asked for a change of gaze: rather than the profile view in most of the photos, they wanted the dog looking directly out of the drawing. Combining references while adjusting the angle of the eyes is part of the craft in commission work, matching what the client sees in their mind with what the reference material actually offers.

    Working on a ceiling piece

    Working on a ceiling piece

At work on a ceiling piece: a trompe l'oeil painted on the easel in the studio, to be installed once finished. The illusion has to hold up once seen from below, so perspective and scale are worked out in reverse from the start.
