About Alma Seroussi

  • Biography
The importance of painting nowadays, as an act, and as an object of appreciation, is its demand from us to stop for a moment and really look; to digest the innumerable amount of images we are surrounded with, and to confront with the tactile reality, with our own look, our own perception and our own body. I use the medium of painting as a personal way to explore day to day themes, while trying to transmit my feelings toward the subjects I represent to the spectator. I tend towards the neglected, the unknown, the obvious, that which keeps us indifferent and which accumulates in the margins of our mind. My paintings are some kind of ‘portraits’, more or less traditionally painted, of objects, abandoned places, insignificant moments. I don't limit myself to a purely mimetic way of painting, neither a purely abstract one. My intention is to give to my representations a certain dimension of a mystery; I don't look for clear statements, I'd always prefer to provoke questions and doubts in order to keep the artworks open for interpretation.
