  • His Dark Side

    His Dark Side

As usual I have used plaster for a background to create textures and shapes. On the right side I used bright colours: yellow, orange, white to find the right balance with the opposite side, in black, which represents the dark side that everyone has (in my opinion). That doesn’t necessarily always mean dark is something terrible. The dark side may be something that we have done that we are not proud to share.

    Vibrations

    Vibrations

'Vibrations' - When I paint, I often create a mood with my abstract work, rather than a particular thought or memory. I am immersed in the moment and whatever is going on in my life can be subconsciously transferred to the canvas. I realised there was a theme emerging for a series of paintings that employed bold use of glowing oranges and vibrant yellows, so I followed this route. My passionate side can at times, cloud my judgement. So in this painting the clouds are raised islands among the dark seas lurking behind, like the doubts in my mind. The swooping arcs of black echoing the freedom from anxiety and stresses that the act of painting brings me.

    City

    City

'City' - This piece was inspired by a wonderful trip I made to Cambodia. Whilst staying in the quiet town of Kampot by the Praek Tuek Chhu River, I had a very special moment sitting on a jetty under the stars by the water. It was almost silent and so still, the sky so dark and clear. I wanted to portray the moment, with the sparkling lights coming through the trees on the horizon, of random homes and the few signs of life I could see. It was a moment clarity, reflection and taking stock of my life.

    Ambiguous

I am experimenting transferring memories and experience to canvas, but still in an abstract way.
