About Agota Art

  • Biography
I was born in 1993, in Klaipėda, Lithuania. I graduated from Vytautas Magnus University
and obtained a Barchelor‘s degree in Art History and Criticism, in 2016. I have been painting since 2017. I currently live and work in Klaipėda, Lithuania.

My creative medium is acrylic and oil painting.I choose this form because of the symbolic nature of colour, the relationship between different shades as well as the expression of ideas in stylistic and decorative way.

I especially value the process of creating which is intuitive and guided by the subconscious mind. Therefore, my creative method is related to a surrealistic technique – automatism. I transform spontaneously appearing visions into symbolic and
allegorical narrative during the painting. The colour palette is also the result of intuitive creating process. Bright, playful and decorative facade often covers complex and contradictory content.

The creative expression has developed over time. I moved from gestural, emotional and expressionistic portraits to surreal, dream-like figurative compositions and dreamscapes. In my paintings, nature and human figure reflect each other, express the themes of alienation and loneliness. I am also drawn to portrait genre which I use to personify psychological states of mind.

Art history studies have helped me move towards certain artistic styles as a painter. I am
greatly inspired by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch and his developed concept of soul landscape. I am also really interested in the figurative British painter‘s David Hockney‘s oevreu and the pictorial, decorative way he perceives the visible world. Last
but not least – another British artist Francis Bacon and his at the time innovative, deconstructed way to depict humans.

As for the main narrative of my works, human beings and nature are always at the centre of the paintings. Instead of depicting traditional landscape I seek to transform it into emotionally charged dreamscape, where man and nature interact with each other. Moreover, my art represents my subjective experiences, psychological states. Through artistic means of expression and free, associative language I explore my inner world and try to connect with the viewer both mentally and psychologically.

My artworks reveal surrealistic subject-matter, Pop Art colour palette, free association method and strong emotional content. I seek to provoke the viewer’s emotions and help to sink into awareness and the subconscious mind as in a therapy.

My paintings are in private collections in Lithuania, Germany, Norway, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Chile.
