Artist's description:

Crystal Palace Park is a Victorian pleasure ground, used for cultural and sporting events. It is located in the south-east London suburb of Crystal Palace, which was in turn named after the Crystal Palace.
Helen is very moved and excited by colour, so often the pictures have real and/or emotional colour, depending on where she was working, and the feelings evoked by the place. A certain palette has evolved, giving, she hopes, a strong energy to the pictures. Artists who have inspired her are those whose use of colour is similarly exciting, such as the landscapes of David Hockney, the work of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven in Canada, as well as the early work of the Fauves. The original sketches, made in the field, are often very much changed in the making of the painting, but are still recognisable as the source material.
