Kim (2014) Original Oil Painting by Anthony Galati

60.96 x 45.72cm (unframed) / 60.96 x 45.72cm (actual image size)

$1,200

This is a great example of why the female figure is my favorite subject. I was particularly pleased with how attractive the face came out, considering this is not always the case with a light source coming from below (spooky late-night flashlight story, anyone?).

The figure is painted tightly, while the brushwork around her stays very loose. The white around the outside of the figure contrasts with the flesh tones, yet that small shadow at the small of her back really sets her in the space and gives her some weight. I also like the interaction of the white with the area around the edges, made of warm ochre tones very similar to her flesh tones. My model had beautiful curly brunette hair, and I enjoyed how the hair became integrated with the background color.

I hope this piece gives a tasteful, feminine feeling of peaceful contentment.

The beige base color was done in acrylic and the figure entirely in oils, on archival panel.
