Artwork description
Snoopy
Morocco, 2020.
I met Snoopy the day before I took this photograph. Some people you meet and take to immediately. He was one of those people — full of energy, completely himself, with a way of making an ordinary moment feel anything but ordinary.
The following morning, I found him skipping rope beside the coast road. The sun was already burning white and gold, the sky was pale and enormous, and the dusty ground glowed in the early light. He was completely absorbed in what he was doing, oblivious to everything around him.
I had my camera with me, of course.
What I like about this photograph is the contrast between his energy and the stillness of the landscape. His hair is flying, the rope is a blur, and the light catches his silhouette against the road. Nothing feels posed. He was simply doing his thing, and I was lucky enough to be there.
We went surfing together afterwards. When he came out of the water, he picked up a shell from the beach and handed it to me without saying a word.
I still have that shell on my shelf.
Photographed on my Leica in Morocco in 2020. The image is full frame, never cropped, exactly as I saw it.
