Abstract Counterpoint I (2026) (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Evgenia Makarova

A mixed media painting with a restless energy: impulsive, playful and open to unexpected turns. Accident and intention come together in a composition that moves between chaos and a loose sense of order.

The gestures carry a sense of urgency, with moments of force balanced by lightness and hesitation. Irregularities and imperfect marks remain part of the painting’s character, preserving the emotional immediacy of the process. There is a sense of freedom in allowing these contradictions to coexist, leaving the work lively, slightly unsettled and open to interpretation.

Part of a diptych.
