Making Art Work: Original art, from everywhere and for everyone

Making Art Work: Original art, from everywhere and for everyone

Three years ago, we launched Artfinder with just 14 artists, a small team and a big dream.

We knew that the art world wasn’t fair, or sustainable, especially for the eight million independent artists around the world who couldn’t make a living from their art. And we also knew that the world is full of people who value original, handmade stuff - and who probably didn’t know they could afford original art.

Fast forward three years, six offices, a terrifying amount of take out (thanks Deliveroo) and a lot of hard work, we now have 8,000 artists in 108 countries, offering over 250,000 original artworks - all for sale from as little as the cost of above-mentioned take out.

We’ve grown so quickly that we’ve barely had chance to step back and think about the essence of what makes us different, but it’s really that we believe in community - in a real community of artists and art lovers. And it’s our role in bringing together both sides of that community which our new visual identity, designed by the brilliant DesignStudio (who, incidentally also worked on Deliveroo’s new Roo), is all about.

Introducing: The Cheeky Red Dot

We loved the cheeky dot the moment that the team at DesignStudio presented it to us. Naughty, intrusive, full of energy, with a little twinkle in its eye - it’s just like us, and it’s also a playful take on the language of the traditional art world “sold” sticker.

From the gallery to the guest room

One thing we’ve struggled with in the past is that the word ‘art’ can be really intimidating. Our new brand is all about reframing art (excuse the pun!) as something that can be bought alongside a statement clock, or a chunky knit scarf or a beautiful orchid. Art can transform your room, or your look, and all of our pieces are one-of-a-kind, so you’ll also be getting something no-one else has.

#MakingArtWork

We couldn’t launch a new brand without asking our community of artists to get involved. On Monday 21 November, our 8,000 artists in 100 countries broke the internet (well nearly) sharing photos and videos about how they’re making art work for them.

What’s new on the site?

More than just a lick of paint, we’ve relaunched the site with lots of new, exciting features which make it easier to find what you’re looking for, even when you’re not quite sure what that is!

Meet Emma: our robot curator

Yep, you read that right. Our tech team has been working hard on new ways to discover art on the site, and we’re very proud to unveil, Emma, our new AI curator. Seen an artwork you like in a gallery but don’t want to buy the print? Need something to match the colour of your wall or the pattern of your sofa? Looking for pieces that would go with each other for a gallery wall? You can tweet any image @ArtfinderEmma and she will respond instantly with up to 200 recommendations based on your image.

We’re still the best!

And fear not, there are some things around here that are not changing. Including our 14 day worldwide free returns, our money back guarantee and our ‘originals only’ policy. Every single piece we sell is hand signed by the artist, and it always will be.

Thank You

And, finally, a huge thank you to the team at Artfinder, to James, Charlie, Paul and the team at DesignStudio, and to our customers and artists all around the world. We couldn’t do it without you.
