We are delighted to announce that Artfinder is committing to plant a tree for every artwork sold through the platform, in partnership with climate action social enterprise, Ecologi. This moment represents a key milestone in Artfinder's pledge to making a positive long-term impact on the environment, with a projected 100,000+ trees to be planted in 2021. To celebrate the launch, we're turning Black Friday to Green Friday, and will plant 5 trees for every artwork sold this weekend!
Why planting trees?
Artfinder is committed to positive environmental change as part of our responsibility as a sustainable, ethical, B Corp Certified business. Our 2020 Impact Report, published in April, outlined our plan to allow customers to make a donation to offset carbon emissions through the site. But this has been a remarkable year, and after thinking long and hard, we've decided that it's only right that that Artfinder makes this donation on customer's behalf.
We went through a long and rigorous process to find the correct partner for this project and are very proud to say that Ecologi fit the bill in total transparency around their projects and spending. This information is available through their platform.
Ecologi say, 'It’s now common knowledge that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. They are also crucial to preventing ecological collapse. Our tree planting partner The Eden Reforestation Projects plant millions of trees around the world each month. We are currently supporting their incredible work in Madagascar.'
Why now?
Artfinder's CEO Michal says, 'We know that everyone loves a deal at this time of year, but we also become a B Corp to truly do business differently, with regard for our impact on people and on planet. So this traditionally busiest trading day of the year in e-commerce felt like the perfect time to launch a long term initiative that we hope will speak volumes about our future direction as a business and our top priority focus to help our planet as we grow. We also believe that as customers become increasingly aware of everyone's responsibility to shop ethically and protect the planet, they will vote with their feet for businesses who are seriously committed to making a positive impact.'
Artfinder also has a partnership with charity, Trees for Cities, through which the team have planted 250+ trees around London in 2019.
