Artist Interview - Cynthia Ligeros

Our community of artists is the core foundation of Artfinder. With such a vast community based in all corners of the world, we wanted to help them share more about their artist journey, their artistic process and technique and what inspires them. Today, we chat with one of our amazing painters, Cynthia Ligeros.

Can you introduce yourself, where you are from and how long you have been with Artfinder for?

My name is Cynthia Ligeros, and I am an abstract artist from Colorado. I've been with ArtFinder since October of 2014.

How would you describe your work?

I draw my inspiration from the dynamic and constantly evolving urban landscapes that surround us, as well as the pristine beauty of the natural world.

What influences you and your work?

My art is influenced by the natural world, moonscapes, sunrises, sunsets, the cycles of nature. I'm inspired by flowers and trees, the mountains, the colours, the changing seasons, all of the landscape here in Colorado.

What does your creative process involve?

My creative process involves a lot of layers. It starts with an underpainting that allows organic forms to develop on the canvas. Then I create more layers to compose and unify these fluid forms until a finished abstract painting emerges.

Have you changed as an artist overtime?

Yes, I think all artists change over time. Their work evolves as their life evolves. Their identity becomes more clear, and the identity of their art becomes more clear.

What’s your favourite artwork you created and why?

My favourite artwork is always the one I just created, because I personally feel that's the best one. :) Seriously, I have been painting larger recently and I really enjoy how engaging the act of painting becomes on a very big canvas.

What do you think is the role of art/artists in society?

I really believe that an artist's role is to bring joy and inspire other people's dreams and hopes, and even recharge their spirits with art.

What advice do you have for emerging artists looking to make a living out of their art career?

Keep looking at art, keep experimenting every day, and just don't stop. You need to build your confidence, build your skills, and build your determination. You've got to believe in yourself enough to create the work and keep doing it. It's the staying power that will get you there.
