    Painting My Garden

This photograph shows me painting outdoors in my favorite plein air studio – the garden of my summer house in the village of Tetritskaro. The house is only about an hour’s drive from Tbilisi, yet it feels like another world. The village lies high in the mountains at about 1300 meters above sea level, where the air is fresh and the light is constantly changing. The garden is large and filled with many fruit trees. Each season transforms it in a different way: in spring the trees bloom with delicate flowers, in summer the leaves create deep green shadows, in autumn the garden turns golden, and in winter the branches stand quietly against the snow. Because the landscape changes so beautifully throughout the year, I return to paint here again and again. Many of my plein air paintings are created in this garden. For me it is both a place of inspiration and a quiet studio under the open sky.

Me at work in Kerala, India

Me at work in Kerala, India

This photograph shows me painting beside my favorite place in Kerala, India — a quiet lotus pond hidden in the lush greenery of an Ayurvedic ashram deep in the tropical jungle. My wife, a yoga teacher, often brings groups here from Georgia, and sometimes I join her to spend time in this peaceful retreat. Whenever I come, I bring my easel and oil paints. The stillness of the place, the dense palms, and the soft light reflected from the water create an atmosphere that makes painting feel effortless. The lotus pond has become my small open-air studio, where I sit for hours observing the changing greens and the subtle movements of nature. Every stay here ends the same way: I return home with several new paintings and the quiet joy of having worked in one of the most serene places I know.
