About Tomas Stanaitis

  • Biography

    "Hello,

I am Tomas, a person who loves to observe the world around me. I am a total fan of nature, in which I see an endless process of change.

My work is not about abstraction or copying nature point-by-point—it is about space and time, place, and the shifting gaze. It is about the human gaze, rather than a machine-generated image (simulation) that lacks place, time, space, or a point of view.

I mostly capture the nature of Lithuania, where humans are absent, yet their presence is visible. I do not use a camera in my work because it is not my vision. Instead, I use my eyes and hand to capture sketches of nature on an iPad, which I later use in the studio to paint larger works.

I graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts and am a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Association, but nature remains my greatest teacher. I believe all the answers I seek are found there, rather than within the studio walls."
